Protocol for Obtaining Medical Treatment, Counseling, Baseline blood testing and Prophylaxis

For ALL EMS PERSONNEL and  Students

Medical care should be obtained as soon as possible after a bloodborne pathogens exposure.

Personnel & Students: All EMS personnel will receive initial evaluation at The Outer Banks Hospital or the hospital where they are enroute to, according to the protocol of the affiliated hospital. They will receive their initial medication at the affiliated facility.  All personnel will receive follow-up counseling, blood work, and appropriate medication through The Outer Banks Hospital.
