The Dare County Public Relations Department is dedicated to increasing awareness of County policies, services, programs and initiatives utilizing print publications, radio, television, Internet, and community organization involvement. The Department works to establish and maintain open channels of communication to keep citizens well informed and increase public involvement in local government. Most press releases, public announcements, brochures and general publications of Dare County government are prepared and released by the Public Relations Department. The department helps organize community outreach events and coordinates special projects for other County departments, operates the Government Access Channel (channel 20 for Charter Cable subscribers), produces the employee newsletter and serves as liaison between the County and the media. Crisis communications for Dare County Emergency Management is overseen by the Public Relations Coordinator. Speakers from various departments of County government may be scheduled through the Public Relations Department to address groups on a variety of issues relating to County government services and issues. Government Access Channel has an Operations Committee which includes a representative from each of the participating communities which includes Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo and Dare County. The Committee is responsible for the operation and use of the Government Channel, with the parameters set forth in The Intelocal Shared Use Agreement Between the Towns and the County.
