Welcome...The Dare-Currituck District Health Department was established in 1938. Since then, the Dare County Health Department has become a single county organization. It has grown steadily, adding new services nearly every year. These services are instrumental in meeting the health needs of the citizens and visitors of Dare County. The Dare County Department of Public Health Board is responsible for the policy making, rule making and adjudicatory body for the County Health Department. Board meets monthly. The following are members of the Health Board:
Public Health has made great strides in the area of preventive medicine. Programs are designed to decrease the occurrence of illness or death due to disease, infection, or lack of preventive care. Promoting good health through education is a priority. The Health Department has three sections that work hard to protect the public’s health and to better ensure their well being. Our Mission Statement...The mission of the DCDPH is to protect the public's health by promoting healthy living and optimizing quality of life for all who reside in our community through prevention education, outreach, clinical care services and environmental protection. Dare County is making it easier for residents and non-residents to make payments to its departments. Payments by Visa, MasterCard and debit cards are now being accepted by all locations of the Health Department.

University of North Carolina/Lineberger
Comprehensive Cancer Center is looking for a very special nurse to help
care for cancer patients in the Outer Banks and function as an Outreach
Nurse Navigator in Dare County, NC. The Outreach Nurse Navigator follows
patients with a specific oncologic diagnosis and provides complex,
quality patient care management. This individual acts as the liaison for
the patient and family addressing their concerns and questions.
Additional responsibilities include community education such as cancer
screenings and health promotions. Prefer 5 or more years of nursing
experience. The applicant should possess good communication skills, both
verbal and written, and be able to interact effectively with patients,
family members, and members of the medical team. The applicant should
demonstrate creativity and initiative in solving problems related to the
provision of health care services for individuals. Experience in the
cancer field and experience with patient advocacy issues is preferred.
The University of North Carolina is actively
recruiting for an Administrative Assistant to work in their Outreach
Clinic located in Dare County, NC. Responsibilities include but
are not limited to, responding to questions/issues that arise pertaining
to the Outreach program and responding to requests for Outreach program
and procedural information. Responsible for scheduling and
coordinating healthcare appointments for patients. Uses a variety
of office equipment to produce desired results for the Outreach program.
Plans and facilities support activities for the Outreach program staff.
Responsible for compiling data using various computer software
applications that will update outreach usage reports and oncology
reports; additionally maintaining office filing system.
Responsible for arranging travel, preparing travel itineraries and
tracking office expenditures.
