Dare County Animal Shelter |

The Dare County Animal Shelter is staffed and managed by the Outer Banks SPCA. The department is concerned with the welfare of all animals, domestic, feral or wild. Responsibilities include the sheltering of unwanted or stray dogs and cats; enforcement of State and County ordinances relating to the keeping, restraint, and humane treatment of animals; education of the public concerning responsible animal ownership and proper animal care; responsible placement of adopted animals; and the humane disposition of unwanted, unadopted, sick or injured animals. The Dare County Animal Shelter provides the following animal-care and animal-control services: pet adoption, pet licensing, spay-neuter assistance, lost and found animal reporting, care of stray and unwanted animals, cruelty investigation, injured animal rescue, euthanasia of sick, injured and unplaceable animals, response to animal-nuisance complaints, response to animal bites, rabies control, and humane education.
