The Cooperative Extension Service is part of a nationwide educational system, which involves the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the state land-grant university system and county government. Extension programs often enhance the work of other government and nonprofit agencies which join together to improve the quality of life for county residents. Programs include workshops, seminars, demonstrations, tours, club meetings, retreats, camps, one-on-one consultations, newsletters, brochures, mass media and others.

The Cooperative Extension Advisory Council - helps in program planning, evaluation, advocacy making connections in the community, and provides guidance and support. Meets quarterly.

Programs that are offered through Cooperative Extension Service are:

Agriculture and Natural Resources focuses on programs, which provide information on the coastal environment, tree and lawn care, landscaping, soils, erosion control, pest management, water quality, waste management, and pesticide education. Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who assist in program delivery.

Family and Consumer Education focuses on human development, childcare, food and nutrition, food safety, family resource management; programs are designed to help families improve the quality of life. Contact Amanda McDanel, Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences.

4-H and Youth Development helps children learn about every day life skills by interacting in groups, clubs and afterschool programming. Summer and school break camps and enrichment opportunities are provided for students K-5 and middle school. Contact Katherine Irby, Extension Agent, 4-H.
